Biography.

Braylin Frazier, known professionally as Hiawasi, was born on July 3, 1998 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and currently resides in north Texas working as an acrylic painter. As a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, she carries on a legacy of indigenous makers joining her family’s lineage of painters, ceramists, and quilters. Influenced by her elders, Braylin’s interest in the arts began at age five and she would tend to her artistry for many years before pursuing painting professionally at the age of twenty-five. Braylin’s artwork is significantly inspired by her diverse heritage, exploring themes of tradition, spirituality, and identity with the use of vibrantly accented palettes and cultural inheritance.
